| A letter from Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod May 27, 1992 Dear John and Winnie, Thank you for your Mother's Day / Mother Earth concert on behalf of the APCC and the environment. Your generous program is greatly appreciated by all of us on the Board of Directors. It was a terrific concert, and one of the most entertaining fund-raisers I have attended. Most importantly, you have done a great service by involving young people in these important issues. You've educated them on a variety of ecological topics while having FUN! The benefits of this will continue to pay off in future years as these kids grow to learn and appreciate the natural environment. Again, my thanks to you, the kids, and all the others who made this concert so enjoyable. Sincerely, |

...Dolphins
& Daffodils & Human-Beans: The Planet Earth Songbook? "We wanted it to be playful and to be forms of life that are easily embraceable or that we already feel good about - such as dolphins, daffodils," explained Mr. Houston. "Human-beans came purely out of wrestling with the term 'human being.' Singing it was very tough. Bean rhymed with green. The more we thought about it, bean is funny. Bean relates to the slang word for our brains, our head. So it's slang for this part of ourselves that we value so much. And alluding to vegetable, it's an easy way of talking about our need of regrowing earthly roots. It was perfect." The Broadsider is pleased to be a part of this environmental campaign, geared towards children, and will be presenting over the coming weeks the creations of Ms. Fitch and Mr. Houston through their "Songs to Color" coloring page for children. From honking geese to happy mushrooms, our young readers are invited to pull out their crayons while celebrating the "variety, humor, magic and oneness of life here on beautiful Planet Earth." |
